Convention, Events and Meetings Director
Oversees development of high quality, innovative meetings* for funeral service professionals on local, national and international levels. Provides technical and logistical support in the office and on-site at meetings. Negotiates and implements contractual agreements with vendors and suppliers to include hotels, convention and visitors bureaus and other travel industry companies.
*The term "meetings" is used to encompass all NFDA events.
- Develop concepts and provides direction and oversight for all NFDA meetings and the annual exposition.
- Research and recommend sites and coordinate all aspects of the annual convention and expo, conferences and meetings.
- Negotiate arrangements and contract for convention and expo sites, accommodations, entertainment, production, airline, and other vendors, as needed.
- Develop and monitor budgets for annual convention and expo, conferences and meetings.
- Oversee development of expo and ad sales budgets.
- Provide leadership and supervision to meetings and business development staff.
- Oversee expo sales and exhibit floor development in conjunction with Business Development staff including design of the overall floor plan, as well as determining all logistics and advertising budget.
- Build positive working relationships with and assist in solicitation of sponsorships from key suppliers, as needed.
- Manage the exhibitor point system and booth selection process.
- Serve as liaison to Exhibit Advisory Committee, including responsibility for meetings, and monthly conference calls.
- Coordinate development of meeting resumes and convention staging guides.
- Oversee on-site implementation of, convention general sessions, special events, exhibits, workshops, meal functions, and including all food, sign placement, badges, traffic builders, stages, etc.
- Work cooperatively with other departments, divisions and staff to collaborate on all NFDA events.
- Develop and deliver presentations about NFDA events, as needed.
- Collaborate with Marketing Department for development of materials to promote NFDA meetings.
- Draft communication pieces to exhibitors such as newsletters, email reminders, email promotions, etc.
- Coordinate and assist with meetings held in Brookfield (headquarters or local hotels).
- Promote and assist in carrying out the Association's mission, vision and goals in a manner consistent with the Association's stated values.
- Exhibit flexible and innovative approaches while performing essential responsibilities and assignments and participating in strategic leadership, management and special project teams.
- Embrace and actively participate in office work teams as requested or assigned.
- All other duties as assigned.
A Bachelors degree or a minimum of 8 years meeting management experience, preferably with an association, or a combination of education and work experience. Experience planning and managing national level conventions and expositions is required. International meetings experience and Certified Meeting Planner designation are highly desirable. Strong organizational, communication, supervisory skills and proficiency in PC based environment utilizing Microsoft applications and contact management software are essential. Must be a team player able to build consensus with a diverse group of individuals. Some travel.
